Students are encouraged to make informed choices about healthy active lifestyles, to evaluate and improve performance, to develop physical and mental capacity, to make and apply decisions and to develop physical skills. They will do this through participation in invasion games, racket sports, gymnastics, dance and athletic activities.

Students continue to develop their skills through a range of activities but enjoy some choice about what sports they are involved in. A greater variety of activity is available such as trampolining, golf and cycling.

Those who choose to study PE as one of their options can take it as the GCSE (AQA board) or the BTEC (Edexcel). Last year 40% of those studying GCSE gained A* - C & 13 out of 15 students passed the BTEC Qualification.

In the Sixth Form there are opportunities for students to assist staff in lower school PE lessons.
There are Sixth Form PE lessons where students are encouraged to take the level 2 in Sports Leadership.
Students can study A level PE (AQA board). At present 14 are in year 12 studying the AS and 7 are in year 13 completing the A2.
Last year the results included one B and 3 Cs at AS and 1 A & 1C at A2.
Several students went on to study sport related courses at University.

Students are given the opportunity to take the 'Sports Leader' Qualification. In Year 10 they can take the Level 1 award & in Year 12 the Level 2 Award.

The Department run a wide ranging extra-curricular programme which includes some input from sports coaches from outside the College. Please see the clubs’ list elsewhere on the website. We pride ourselves on participation in numerous competitive and performance opportunities both within the College and against other schools. At all times the highest levels of behaviour and sportsmanship are expected.
Recent successes include:-

17 Students represented North Devon at Athletics and the Year 8 Girls won the North Devon League Final. Dani Jewell and Ebony Webber became County Athletics Champions at the 3000m and Long Jump respectively.
The Year 10 Football Team were North Devon Champions and the Year 8 Team were North Devon runners-up.
Solomon Wheatley was signed by Plymouth Argyle.
Ollie Mathers became County Judo Champion and was 5th at the British Schools Championships.
The U13 Girls Indoor Cricket Team reached the County final.
The Year 8 and Year 10 Rounders Teams won the North Devon League and the Year 8 Team came 2nd in Devon.
The Bideford Boys were Devon Champions at Indoor Rowing and Charlie White and Kieryn Gayson were individual Champions as well.
The U15 Netball Team came 1st in their North Devon League and the U12s came 2nd.
The U13 Netball Team came 2nd in the North Devon Tournament.
The College Gym Teams gained a 1st, two 2nds and a 3rd while we also won two individual awards.

Those who represent the College each year are presented with certificates and some who show a high level of performance and commitment may receive College Colours.

Students are expected to change into fully correct PE kit for all lessons and PE activities. Those who may forget will be expected to wear kit leant to them. Some activities require students to have gum shields and shin-pads.
The College is now blessed with amazing facilities which include a full size rubber crumb astroturf pitch, a six court sports hall, fitness suite, gymnasium and 8 tennis/netball courts.
