Essentially the awarding of specialist status has provided core funding and real impetus that has helped to revolutionise teaching & learning at the College. Specialist Status further helps us to meet the requirements of the National Curriculum & to deliver a wide and balanced range of subjects.
Nationally there are twelve specialist areas: arts, business & enterprise, engineering, humanities, language, mathematics & computing, music, science, special specialism, sports, technology and vocational.
Schools can opt to teach two specialist subjects (such as a humanities and media arts specialism or a science and engineering specialism).
In light of our new school build project Bideford College now has dual status, those of Science & Sustainability.
